Lobster Roll Recipe
Traditional Maine lobster rolls are legendary, there’s no doubt, and summer approaching means lobster rolls are in season. All across the state, shacks are opening their doors and piling perfectly toasted buns high with the house lobster salad. Festivals, picnics, luncheons and events will feature the rich buttery meat seasoned and stuffed into rolls and then into mouths.
It's too tasty a treat to keep to ourselves, so let's kick off the summer right with a classic lobster roll recipe.
Maine Lobster Rolls
Ingredients:
1/2 lb cooked lobster meat
1/2 diced cucumber
1/4 cup of mayonnaise
1/2 Tbsp tarragon
2 sliced scallions
Salt and pepper to taste
2-3 split top hotdog buns
2 - 3 Tbsp butter, unsalted
Directions:
1. Mix together lobster, mayonnaise, cucumber, scallions, tarragon and salt and pepper.
2. Add room temperature butter to the sides of the bun and crisp in a pan over medium heat until golden brown.
3. Add lobster salad to the buns and enjoy. Makes 2-3 rolls.
The great thing about lobster rolls is that there are loads of variations for a tasty lobster salad. Add a splash of lemon juice, or substitute the cucumbers for celery. If tarragon isn’t your taste, try a bit of cayenne pepper instead.
I’ve also seen lobster salad recipe that used dill, lemon and capers.
Lobster rolls can be served with chips and pickles, but for a real Maine experience, you need fresh cut french fries and homemade coleslaw.
