Christmas is a magical time of year.
Decorating is one of the best parts of it. You can get creative with the ways you bring the Christmas cheer into your home. However, before you do that, you need to make sure you have all the essentials.
As well as a tree, lights and a wreath, you'll also need evergreen garland.
In this article, we'll tell you how to use fresh evergreens to decorate your home.
5 Ways to Make Your Home Look Festive with Evergreen Garland
Make your home look great this Christmas with these tips.
1. Dress Your Mantelpiece
Laying fresh greenery across your mantelpiece is a great way to give it a festive look.
To keep it in place, weigh it down with heavy objects. These could include ornaments, candles, picture frames or even trophies. Anything that stops it from slipping out of place will do.
2. Wrap it Around Your Banister
Adding some evergreen boughs to your staircase can turn it into a real statement piece.
Weave the boughs around the banister, wrapping it over and under the wood or railings as you go. You may be able to keep them in place simply by interlocking them in their natural shape. However, if that's not possible, there are other solutions you can use.
Get hold of some twine or floral wire and twist it around the ends of the garlands. That will keep them in place until it's time to take them down.
3. Don't Decorate too Early
Fresh, natural decorations don't last forever. If you put them outdoors in cold weather, they may last for three or four weeks. However, when they're kept in warmer temperatures inside the house, they may only look their best for around two weeks.
Keep this into consideration before you start decorating. If you put them up too early, you may end up having to do the whole process over again with new garlands later on.
4. Maintain Your Garlands
You can't just put your Christmas garlands up and leave them. To keep them looking fresh, you'll have to carry out some maintenance now and then.
It's most important to keep them moist. If the environment is too dry, they'll start to look dull and wilted very quickly.
When you start out, spray them with an anti-desiccant spray. This will provide a protective coating, locking in the water that's already there. Every now and then, you can spritz them with a spray bottle of water to give them some extra moisture, too.
5. Enhance that Festive Evergreen Scent
One of the best things about using natural Christmas garland decorations in your home is the natural scene they give off. As soon as visitors walk into your home, they'll be able to smell the pleasant, festive aroma.
You can maximize this by combining different types of evergreens in your decorations. Use mixtures of the strongest-smelling types, such as pine, cedar, eucalyptus, and balsam.
